Export of support services to Russia's oil, gas, and chemical industries is prohibited in Canada.
According to a statement from Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly, the new penalties are aimed at an industry that accounts for almost half of Russia's government budget receipts.
Canada announced further sanctions against Russia on Tuesday, prohibiting the export of 28 services, including accounting and advertising, that are required for the operation of Russia's oil, gas, and chemical industries.
According to a statement from Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly, the new penalties are aimed at an industry that accounts for almost half of Russia's government budget receipts.
Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine on Feb. 24, Canada has imposed sanctions on more than 1,070 individuals and entities and Joly said Ottawa would "continue to relentlessly pursue accountability for Vladimir Putin's senseless war."
